Puncak is the name of a highland located about 20 km southeast of Bogor. Positioned at about 1,500 m above sea-level, this area has a cool climate which makes it a popular holiday spot for Bogor as well as Jakarta residents. Its beautiful view and fresh air will rejuvenate your mind and relieve any stress accumulated during the daily life in the city.
Puncak has a long and winding road which used to be the main road connecting Jakarta and Bandung before Cipularang toll was established. Part of the region is under Bogor Regency and another under Cianjur Regency, with the border between the two regencies lies near the peak of the area.
A lot of tea plantations could be found along the way. Gunung Mas Tea Plantation is a government-owned tea estate that covers an area of more or less 2,500 hectares. Here you can watch the tea-pickers at work, enjoy a cup of tea, or buy some tea leaves. For those who enjoy outdoor activities, this place is also a great spot for tea walk and group outing.
Taman Safari Indonesia is one the main attractions in the area. It is a safari park where you can drive in your own vehicles and observe various mammals, reptiles, and other wildlife species roaming freely in a park designed to resemble the actual habitat of the animals. Besides animals, this place also provide amusements and rides such as sky lift, merry go round, jet coaster and many more.
There are many villas in Puncak that you can rent for your stay. If you prefer hotels, several hotels are also available in this mountainous region. You can even hire a caravan to spend a night at Taman Safari Indonesia if you are a bit adventurous. The best time to visit Puncak is during the weekdays because on weekends the road to here will be jam-packed with vehicles. Sometimes the road will be closed one direction at a time to allow wider space for vehicles from the other direction.
