Urang Kanekes is a unique group of society that closed from outside influences, especially for their culture. Although they called themselves as an Urang Kanekes, Urang Cibeo or Urang Cekertawana, the outsider society call them as Urang Baduy.
In fact, they’re not an isolated tribe which is modern life and contact separated. They are just a group of society that set apart from outsider. Urang Kanekes, intentionally isolate their life from outside influences. It is forbidden to be moral praxis for them. For example, it’s prohibited for them to use detergent for laundry at the river or damaging the forest that is their living earth. All Baduiest, without exception, for centuries has been doing this prohibition.
They also, for centuries have been living in this harmony social life. Other society who admitted itself as a modern society that has a high crime rate, Urang Kenekes tribe is known as a Zero Crime Rate for more that hundred years. What an amazing achievement!! We, who live in the civilization society which are time to time feed by news of homicides, burglars, corruptions, either influences to hate each other or influences to blame each other without considering the nature damages caused by its behavior.
Regarding this Kanekes Human Being, Dutch researcher in 18th century, Blume, wrote in his book, In Search of the Nobel Savage :
“O Happy Baduy who dwell undisturbed and free of worries in the village Kanekes, Kadoe-Koedjang en Tjiboam, why could I not stay among you for months in order to become better acquainted with all your qualities, all your propensities and traits, in particular the character of your religion, in wich the history of your vicissitudes of fortune is embedded”
